Anchor Haven Home Care

Caregiving work with clear boundaries

If you have ever been asked to do things that were not your job, in a home where nobody told you what to expect, you will understand why we are so specific about this one.

What the job actually is

Every direct-service role here, whatever the title on your badge, performs companion and homemaker tasks only. That is what a Homemaker and Companion Services registration permits under the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, and we hold that line for your protection as much as the client's.

  • Companionship, conversation, outings and safety supervision
  • Light housekeeping, laundry and linen changes
  • Meal planning, preparation and serving
  • Shopping, errands, transportation and appointment escort
  • Spoken medication reminders

You will never be asked to bathe, dress, groom or toilet a client, lift or transfer anyone, feed by hand, handle or give medication, or perform any nursing or clinical task. If a client or a family member asks, you decline and you tell the office. That is policy, not a judgement call you have to make alone in someone's kitchen.

If you hold a CNA or HHA certificate you are very welcome here. The certificate simply is not what you will be using for this registrant, and we would rather you knew that before you applied than after.

What we will ask of you

Background screening

Screening is submitted through the AHCA Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse and reviewed before you start. A disqualifying offence under s. 435.04 or s. 408.809(4), F.S. means you cannot hold a screened position unless an exemption has been granted.

A full work history

We verify it with the employers themselves, as s. 400.509, F.S. requires. Where a former employer has closed or will not respond, we document what we tried.

Orientation before your first visit

Scope, client rights, confidentiality, mandatory abuse reporting, infection control, emergencies and documentation. Then in-service training as things change.

A license and insurance, if you will be driving clients

Transportation and appointment escort are part of the job for many of our clients. If you will be driving, we verify your driver license and current auto liability insurance before your first trip, and again as they expire. You are never asked to lift or transfer anyone into or out of a vehicle.

Apply to join us

Fourteen questions are required. Everything else helps, but you can leave it blank and we will pick it up on the call. There is no deadline and no trick.

Please do not include medical information, health history or the reason you left a job anywhere on this form. None of it is asked for, none of it affects whether we call you, and a hiring form is the wrong place for it to be stored.
